First of all, thanks to Wheelie for the lovely comment yesterday about the PE bag I recently made to order.
Also there was a comment a few days ago someone made on twitter about
"quality not quantity" and it started me thinking.....
Years ago when I was a single parent I used to go to a sewing class in the evenings at a local college once a week and during that time I learnt how to make clothes and curtains, I didn't get any paper qualifications at the end of term but what I did get was sewing experience. I've been sorting out some photo's recently and came across some of the items I made.
Some bathrooms curtains complete with valance and tie-backs,(which was originally a duvet cover of my Mum's so I was recycling even then!) some blouses and skirts and a skirt suit made from a lovely herringbone wool fabric, here are the photo's.........
Wool lined skirt
Herringbone wool skirt suit (lined and with fabric covered buttons)
I still have the grey skirt with the buttons on , the black skirt (polka dot blouse) and the herringbone skirt, and the year these clothes were made, it was in 1991, so obviously quality handmade items, lasting a lot longer than just a few years!

Edit - eight years ago, I went to a local college and did a Business Administration Course and I now have an NVQ 2 which is equal to five GCSEs at grades A*- C

Well done Josie they are great. I keep meaning to do a sewing course and actually use my sewing machine !!
My Mum used to make all me and my sisters clothes and most of hers, she is a genius and always had something on the go. Quality counts as they say !!

Congratulations, great pictures, it's so important to capture some of the past; not that we should live in the past, but it does give us a measure of where we've come from to compare with today.
xx
thanks Twiggy, thanks for saying they are great and really enjoyed making them, not made any more clothes for a while though.

RLS - thanks, I love looking through old photo's and seeing what I've made and achieved over the years and apart from the sewing class, mostly self taught too!
